7th Graders Channel Abby Sunderland in Makerspace Boat Challenge

Ms. Megan McKenna's 7th Grade English/Language Arts class visited the Middle School's Makerspace for an extension project on a recent story they read in class. Students read about Abby Sunderland and her attempt to become the youngest person (16) to sail solo around the world. In the Makerspace, students put their science and mathematics skills to the test to create their own boats. After the boats were designed, library media specialist Mrs. Jennifer Kosior and the students tested them to determine how much weight they could hold before sinking. The students' creativity and collaboration skills made for an exciting project!
